We Were Silent

We lay on my bed in each other’s arms.
We were sharing.
We were listening.
We were speaking.
And we were silent.

I challenged his convictions
so he told me about his pain.
And we were silent.

I began to cry, I said I wished I could make it go away.
And we were silent.

He pulled me into his chest
and said, “me too”.
I felt loved, and I cried.
And we were silent.

I wish we could scream baby. I wish we could have screamed.
